Public health talk promotes diabetes prevention and effective management

A public health awareness talk jointly organized by the Myanmar Diabetes Asso-ciation and the Myanmar Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism was held at Victoria Hospital in Yangon yesterday morn-ing, with the aim of raising public awareness to effectively prevent diabetes and its complications, promote early detection, and en-sure proper and effective treatment and control of the disease. “Diabetes has become a major public health con-cern in today’s society, as it is a chronic disease that can affect people of all ages. Poorly controlled diabetes can lead to serious com-plications, including cardi-ovascular disease, kidney disease, impaired vision, and nerve and foot prob-lems. Therefore, prevent-ing the disease, detecting it early, and treating and controlling it effectively are particularly important. “Treatment of diabe-tes cannot be adequately managed simply by taking medication. It is also important for patients and their care-givers to have a proper understanding of health information re-lated to diabetes,” said Professor Dr Thein My-int, Vice-Chairman of the Myanmar Diabetes Asso-ciation and the Myanmar Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism. At the talk, Professor Dr Thein Myint gave a presentation on “What is Diabetes? Its Types and Causes”, while Associate Professor Dr Cho Mar from the Department of Medical Endocrinology at Univer-sity of Medicine 1, Yangon, discussed “Symptoms of Diabetes, Diagnosis and Treatment Goals”. As accurate and inac-curate information about diabetes is widely circu-lated nowadays, it can be extremely dangerous if patients and their caregiv-ers mistakenly believe and follow false information. Therefore, the Myanmar Diabetes Association and the Myanmar Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism are planning to hold public health awareness talks every two months under the slogan “Control Diabetes with Knowledge”. — News/Photo: Kyaw Gyi/ KNN A public health awareness talk jointly organized by the Myanmar Diabetes Association and the Myanmar Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism in progress in Yangon yesterday.
