The Right to Happiness and Sadness Amidst Difficult Times

Article writer – Dr. Moe Thit Nay (Ayeyarwaddy Times, October 25) All human beings desire and long for happiness. For a young child, happiness might be sleeping soundly in their mother's embrace. For a young person, it might be being with the one they love, having the opportunity to do what they are passionate about, and having the freedom to choose their own future. For a family, happiness might be having all family members gathered for dinner. For someone displaced by conflict, being able to sleep peacefully for a night in a safe place could be a great source of happiness. Happiness does not necessarily mean always smiling, having no sadness, or possessing a life free from difficulties. Everyone wants to be happy. While the way each person experiences happiness may differ, the desire for happiness is present in all human beings. So, what exactly is happiness? What happens in the brain and body when we are happy?

Education Trap in the Dark Era and the Way Out for the Next Generation (Part 2)

By – TBR Commentary On October 25, we discussed the trap of education under the military regime in Part 1. Here, we will continue to discuss three ways for the next generation to escape this trap. (a) Digital Knowledge System (Digital Autonomy) This involves bypassing the military's degrees and classrooms to acquire world-class skills at home through international platforms such as Coursera and edX. Even if a wicked system operates within the country, building one's own knowledge outside the classroom with the desire to break through it is the first act of defiance against the dictator. (b) Digital Freelancing Fields such as coding and graphic design, which can directly connect to the global market, should be guided. In this era, AI has made significant progress, so it is necessary to learn how to find digital freelancing jobs by instructing AI. This is an escape route that allows one to earn foreign income from home without having to enter the military's economic machinery. While this may sound difficult, it is necessary to instill a spirit like a banyan tree clinging and growing between rocks. (c) Language Foreign languages such as English, Japanese, or Finnish should be used as a key to access international scholarships and opportunities, and older siblings should provide support from behind as a bridge for generational transition. Therefore, the future is not entirely lost. It has only changed direction. It is the historical responsibility of middle-aged siblings to pass on these escape routes to the youth. 3. The Role of Parents The last group consists of parents and elders who want to protect their children closely. How to help their children struggle and find a way out of this dark era is the daily nightmare of every parent. Even if children are sent to school with the desire for them to be educated, they may become robots protecting the dictatorial system, like in a movie, if they fall under the military's propaganda. Therefore, even if parents send their children to school physically, they need to provide close protection at home mentally and ideologically to prevent their children from becoming victims of the dictatorial system. According to political science theory, dictators often try to make the public believe that "there is no way out except through us." However, one thing is certain: the future does not exist solely within the framework they define. As long as we do not bow our heads and continue to struggle with alternative methods, the future is not entirely lost. So, how can we prevent our brothers and sisters, children, nephews, and nieces, who may fall under the dictator's propaganda, from becoming henchmen who will kill the people again, by resisting from home? Home Strategy This is a frightening but undeniable truth that we must all bravely face. When dictators revise school curricula and try to mold children's brains to their will... classrooms become battlegrounds for "ideological warfare" rather than places to seek knowledge. Even if, due to various circumstances, one has to send their child or younger sibling to the schools of the wicked system... how can we prevent the dictator from destroying their spirit with propaganda from home?
