PM Hun Manet Extends Blessings for Vassa Day, a Significant Buddhist Observance

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has issued a statement extending his blessings for Vassa Day, a significant observance within Buddhism. This festival holds profound importance in Buddhist teachings. The Prime Minister emphasized that the Vassa period is a crucial time for Bhikkhus (male monks) and Samaneras (novice monks) to diligently study dharma and discipline in adherence to the Buddha's teachings. It is customary for devotees, to the best of their ability, to offer alms, rice, beverages, and other daily necessities to the monks to celebrate this occasion. Vassa is observed annually, commencing on the day after the full moon of Asalha (the sixth lunar month). The festival traditionally begins with the 'Tien Vassa' ceremony, where devotees and temple attendants participate in processions carrying candles, robes, and offerings around the temple stupa. Following this, monks deliver sermons, and the candles and offerings are presented to the monastic community. This observance symbolizes Cambodia's rich Buddhist heritage and the deep-rooted presence of religion in society, serving as a spiritual anchor and a moment for fostering community cohesion.
