Stray Dog Triggers Motorcycle Crash, Mother Trapped Under Bike in Lampang

LAMPANG – A routine morning commute turned into a harrowing ordeal for a local family in Lampang province today, as a stray dog triggered a motorcycle crash, leaving a 52-year-old woman with a severe leg injury and her 10-year-old son with minor wounds. The incident occurred at the busy Lampang-Nong Khai intersection, near the Lampang-Wiang Thong Hotel. Rescue teams from the Lampang Rescue Association responded swiftly to the scene. They found a heavily damaged Honda motorcycle on the road, with the injured mother trapped beneath it and her young son visibly distressed. The 10-year-old boy recounted that a stray dog suddenly darted into their path. His mother applied an emergency brake to avoid the animal, causing the motorcycle to lose balance and crash. While the son sustained only minor scrapes, the mother faced a critical medical emergency. The motorcycle's metal kickstand had pierced her leg, rendering her immobile. Recognizing the high risk of heavy blood loss and permanent nerve damage if the stand were removed on the spot, rescue workers opted to carefully cut the stand from the bike itself. After successfully freeing the mother, first aid was administered, and both she and her son were transported to Lampang Hospital for urgent medical care. Lampang City Police Station officers have initiated an investigation into the accident, collecting evidence and planning to interview the mother once she recovers. Stray animals entering traffic remain a significant road safety concern across Thailand, leading to numerous unexpected accidents.
