P8.3M aid given to 165 OFWs

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has distributed P8.3 million in assistance to 165 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) experiencing crisis or distress situations. The assistance was released on Sept. 8 in Mandaluyong under the DMW’s Aksyon Fund, which supports OFWs and their families facing emergency, crisis or distress situations. Falconi Ace Millar, DMW-National Capital Region director, said the fund forms part of the government’s efforts under the Uplift initiative to assist OFWs and their families during crises. OFWs seeking assistance through the Aksyon Fund may inquire at the DMW Central Office, regional offices or Migrant Workers Offices abroad. This aid is part of the government's safety net for the challenges OFWs may face abroad, such as contractual disputes, unfair dismissals, or legal issues in their host countries. Remittances from OFWs are a significant contributor to the Philippine economy, making their safety and welfare a national priority. The disbursement of these funds signifies an effort to ensure that OFWs can work abroad with peace of mind and continue to contribute to the national economy.
