Motor vehicle awareness and action against traffic rule violators being carried out in townships in southern Shan State

Actions are being taken to raise awareness about motor vehicles and to take action against traffic rule violators in townships in southern Shan State, according to the 18th Traffic Police Unit (Southern Shan). It was learned that actions were taken to penalize motor vehicles violating traffic rules on July 2, 2026, on the road leading to the Sulamani Pagoda in Taunggyi City, at the Irrawaddy intersection, and in front of the BOC in the city center. It was learned that the 18th Traffic Police Unit (Southern Shan) conducted 23 awareness talks and distributed 4,156 awareness leaflets from January to June 2026. It was learned that the 18th Traffic Police Unit (Southern Shan) prosecuted a total of 1,046 vehicles, including 420 motor vehicles and 626 motorcycles, for traffic violations from January to June 2026. Awareness campaigns and actions against traffic rule violators were carried out in various townships in the 8 districts of southern Shan State. An official from the 18th Traffic Police Unit (Southern Shan) said, "We have been carrying out awareness campaigns and actions against traffic rule violators in Taunggyi city and in cities with heavy traffic." It was learned that those who do not comply with traffic rules such as not wearing helmets, not attaching license plates, and not installing rearview mirrors when riding motorcycles are being arrested and prosecuted.
