Chinese Entrepreneur Eyes Long-Term Cambodia Investment in Agriculture

A Chinese entrepreneur from Guangxi is exploring long-term investment in Cambodia’s agricultural sector, aiming to strengthen supply chains, boost exports, and introduce advanced technology. Su Yang, secretary of a Guangxi business association and founder of a smart agricultural supply chain, stated that Cambodia possesses high-quality resources but lacks robust supply chains and effective channels to reach overseas markets. He outlined two key areas for cooperation: improving product quality to support exports and introducing Chinese supply-chain systems and technology into Cambodia. Su noted Cambodia’s significant development since his first visit a decade ago, describing Phnom Penh as more vibrant and the investment environment as more mature. He expressed “100% confidence” in the stability of the Cambodian government and the Cambodia–China relationship. He also mentioned that the new transport route through Laos to China could further enhance market connectivity. However, he stressed that his plans remain exploratory, requiring further studies before specific projects can be decided upon. Su hopes to establish a long-term presence to contribute to the development of Cambodia’s agricultural production and supply chains while strengthening bilateral ties. In the first half of 2026, Cambodia approved 276 new projects worth over $4.7 billion, which are expected to create 160,000 jobs. Chinese investors accounted for 35.75% of these approvals, trailing behind domestic investors at 41.74%, according to the Cambodia Investment Committee.
