Cambodia: New Home Donated to War-Disabled Veteran

In Stueng Saen City, Kampong Thom Province, Cambodia, a war-disabled former soldier, Chan Piseth, 60, and his family, who were living in poverty, have received a new home. The donation was made by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate and President of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association, and Samdech Kittipritthbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen. This marks the 41st house donated to a veteran's family in Stueng Saen City. Chan Piseth joined the army in 1985 and was recognized as a disabled soldier in 1991 after sustaining injuries to his waist and leg from shrapnel during a battle in Stueng Tr​eng District, Kampong Thom Province, in 1990. He lives with his wife, eight children, and grandchildren, facing significant financial hardship. Major General Som Sun, Commander of the Kampong Thom Regional Military Operations Area and Vice Chairman and Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association, led the handover ceremony. The new house, measuring 5x7 meters, features a concrete foundation, corrugated zinc roofing, smart board walls, a 3-meter kitchen extension at the rear, and a toilet. Additionally, Prime Minister Hun Manet and his spouse provided food supplies, essential household items, bedding, utensils, and cash to assist the family with their daily needs and the housewarming. Chan Piseth expressed his profound gratitude to Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Samdech Mahabovorar Padei Hun Manet for the new home and provisions, wishing them good health and prosperity. This initiative is part of the ongoing social welfare efforts by the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association to improve the living conditions of former soldiers and their families, with further housing projects underway.
