Yogyakarta Institute of Arts Suspends Lecturer Accused of Sexual Harassment

The Yogyakarta Institute of the Arts (ISI) has suspended a lecturer accused of sexual assault against several students. The decision was made by the campus leadership on September 21, 2026, based on the findings of the Task Force for Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education (PPKPT). Daru Tunggul Aji, Head of Public Relations at ISI Yogyakarta, stated that the suspension is a follow-up after the Task Force completed its investigation and compiled conclusions and recommendations. "Every report that comes in is taken seriously. In this case, the Task Force worked intensively since the report was received, examining victims, witnesses, and the accused lecturer, before compiling conclusions and recommendations for the leadership," Daru said in a statement on Tuesday (22/9). According to Daru, several students who claimed to be victims approached the PPKPT Task Force on August 18, 2026, accompanied by a lecturer. The report was then submitted in writing on August 20, 2026. The Task Force proceeded to examine the victims, witnesses, and the reported lecturer. The series of examinations was completed on September 10, 2026, before the results were submitted to the leadership of ISI Yogyakarta. "Once the official report is received by the Task Force, the process begins. The more complete the chronology, supporting evidence, and information about witnesses provided, the faster the Task Force can conduct accurate verification and examination. Therefore, we encourage anyone who experiences or knows of violence to not be afraid to report it," Daru stated. Daru emphasized that the handling of the case prioritizes the safety, protection, support, continuity of education, and recovery of victims. ISI Yogyakarta also ensures that victims, reporters, and witnesses are not subjected to intimidation, pressure, threats, retaliation, or other actions during or after the handling process. The campus maintains the confidentiality of their identities and personal information and requests the public and academic community not to disseminate identities, documentation, or information that could increase the burden or endanger the victims. ISI Yogyakarta asserts that all forms of violence are intolerable within the educational environment. Every report will be followed up based on facts and applicable regulations, without neglecting the principles of protection, justice, and institutional responsibility.
