Vietnam Boosts Capital Market Internationalization with FTSE Russell Partnership
Vietnam's State Securities Commission (SSC) is strengthening ties with FTSE Russell to internationalize its capital market. Amid external challenges, the nation aims to enhance links with global financial institutions. Reducing logistics costs and developing an international financial center are also key to economic growth.
The State Securities Commission of Vietnam (SSC) is looking to strengthen cooperation with FTSE Russell to internationalize its capital market. Bui Hoang Hai, Vice Chairman of the SSC, highlighted the domestic economy's continued exposure to external challenges in 2026, including the impact of the Middle East conflict. He emphasized the increasing outward focus of Vietnam's stock market and its growing links with global financial institutions and leading international exchanges. Vietnam's recent successful high-level diplomatic activities underscore its foreign policy of openness, independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, diversification, and multilateralization, reflecting a renewed approach to foreign affairs. This diplomatic momentum is expected to bolster international economic cooperation. To drive economic growth, Vietnam is also prioritizing improvements in its logistics infrastructure. Resolution 20 of the 14th Party Central Committee targets reducing logistics costs to below 12% of GDP by 2030 and developing five to six modern logistics centers of international standards. Achieving these goals will necessitate restructuring the logistics network, enhancing multimodal connectivity, digitalizing supply chains, and optimizing seaport utilization to leverage maritime advantages for robust economic expansion. Furthermore, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has called for continuous enhancements to Vietnam’s legal framework to remove institutional bottlenecks, unlock resources, and establish stronger foundations for socio-economic development. This is crucial for attracting domestic and foreign investment and ensuring sustainable growth. In parallel, Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Queen Suthida visited Hanoi University on September 16, engaging with its leadership, lecturers, and students. National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man also urged stronger exchanges and practical cooperation between the Vietnamese legislative body and China's National People's Congress, particularly between their specialized committees, to deepen legislative ties and contribute to bilateral relations. These engagements illustrate Vietnam's commitment to diversifying its regional and international partnerships. Information source: VietnamPlus English
