Hue City Strengthens Flood Preparedness Ahead of Rainy Season

Hue City, located in central Vietnam, is enhancing its disaster prevention measures in anticipation of the upcoming rainy season and subsequent floods. At a disaster prevention conference held on September 10, Mr. Le Tri Thanh, Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee, assessed that disaster prevention efforts in 2025 were "well-executed." He acknowledged that responses to the prolonged heavy rains and floods experienced from October to November last year achieved certain results. However, Chairman Thanh emphasized that complacency based on past successes is unacceptable and vigilance must be maintained for the current situation. Hue City has alerted the public to "two main rainfall scenarios" that are anticipated. These scenarios include the potential formation of typhoons or tropical depressions in the East Sea and the consequent widespread heavy rainfall in central Vietnam. According to weather forecasts, Hue City is expected to experience heavy rain, squalls, and strong winds from September 10 to 16. Furthermore, as early cold air masses move into the north, central regions are also likely to see significant rainfall. Based on this information, Hue City urges residents to pay close attention to the latest weather updates and take necessary measures for their safety. Under Vietnam's single-party system, disaster response is a critical government responsibility, with coordination between central government directives and local authorities' implementation. In recent years, extreme weather events, often attributed to climate change, have become more frequent, particularly affecting central coastal regions of Vietnam, which are constantly exposed to the risks of typhoons and floods. Hue City's emphasis on early warning and public information dissemination, drawing from past lessons, reflects this context.
