Landslide Cuts Off Key Road Linking Two Sultan Kudarat Villages

A provincial road connecting two villages in coastal Lebak, Sultan Kudarat has remained closed since Monday after a landslide damaged a section of the road. Affected by the road closure are Barangays Poloy-Poloy and Salangsang. According to the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Poloy-Poloy and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the landslide destroyed a part of the road, significantly impacting the movement of local residents and the transport of goods. Restoration efforts are underway, with authorities prioritizing the repair work. However, the completion timeline remains uncertain as safety measures must be ensured alongside the repair operations. This region has become increasingly vulnerable to extreme weather events due to climate change in recent years, leading to frequent natural disasters such as landslides and floods. The recent landslide is believed to be partly caused by record-breaking rainfall. Infrastructure development is a national priority for the Philippines, and in rural areas, road closures due to natural disasters can severely disrupt economic activities and daily life.
