APF Calls for Respect of Cambodian Sovereignty and Peaceful Conflict Resolution

The Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie (APF) adopted a resolution during its 51st Ordinary Session on July 11, 2026, reaffirming its strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Cambodia. On the same day, the assembly also elected Mr. Uch Borith, First Vice-President of the Cambodian Senate, as the Regional Delegate for Asia-Pacific for the 2026-2028 mandate. Concurrently, the APF called for strict respect for Cambodia's sovereignty, avoidance of any unilateral actions that could exacerbate tensions, and full implementation of the joint statement signed by the Prime Ministers of Cambodia and Thailand in Kuala Lumpur on October 26, 2025. The resolution expressed regret over the suffering of civilians and recalled that the destruction of cultural heritage, a common legacy of humanity, can affect the building of sustainable peace and reconciliation. Furthermore, the APF demanded an immediate de-escalation of tensions, continued dialogue, and the withdrawal of armed forces from conflict zones, affirming support for existing bilateral mechanisms, particularly the Joint Border Committee (JBC), and urging the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law. The APF also supported the normalization of relations between Cambodia and Thailand based on respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, the inviolability of borders, and the delimitation of borders in accordance with international legal instruments. In response to the adoption of this resolution, Mr. Uch Borith expressed his profound gratitude on behalf of the Senate, the National Assembly, and the Cambodian people to all delegations of the APF for supporting the decision concerning respect for Cambodia's territorial integrity. He stated that this adoption is a testament to the unity of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie in respecting international law, state sovereignty, and peaceful dispute resolution, and serves as a message to the international community about solidarity and shared commitment to promoting peace and the rule of law. In the afternoon of the same day, the assembly also elected Mr. Uch Borith as the Regional Delegate for Asia-Pacific of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie (APF) for a two-year term from 2026 to 2028.
