Cambodia Braces for Heavy Rain, Gusts, and Thunderstorms Due to Three Tropical Depressions Until August 15

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology issued a notice on August 6, 2026, regarding the situation of the 15th storm named Chan-hom, which evolved from a low-pressure system over the western Pacific Ocean. This storm, along with the 14th storm named Kujira and the 13th typhoon named Dolphin, will strongly influence the southwest monsoon winds blowing over several regions, including the Kingdom of Cambodia. According to the forecast, Cambodia is not directly in the path of these three storms. However, the influence of these storms will cause weather changes from August 6 to August 15, 2026. For lowland areas, including Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Kandal, Takeo, and Svay Rieng provinces, and Phnom Penh capital, approximately 40% of the land area may experience rain accompanied by strong gusts and thunderstorms. For highland areas, including Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, the Dangrek Mountains, and the Cardamom Mountains, approximately 60% of the land area may experience rain with strong gusts and thunderstorms. For coastal areas, including Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor Mountain range, approximately 70% of the land area may experience rain with strong gusts and thunderstorms, along with strong sea waves ranging from a minimum average height of 0.50 meters to a maximum average height of 1.75 meters. The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology urges all members of the public to exercise a high degree of caution regarding the phenomena of rain, thunderstorms, and strong gusts, especially for our citizens traveling by land and water.
