94 Civilians Killed in One Month Due to Terrorist Killings by Military Under Interim Government

Terrorist killings by the military under the interim government resulted in the deaths of 94 civilians in the past month of August, and 14 individuals have been politically detained, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). Among the civilians who died due to the military junta, seven civilians died after being arrested, and approximately 58 deaths require identification, it was learned. The majority of civilian deaths were due to intentional airstrikes by the military on the public, resulting in 80 deaths, followed by five deaths from artillery shelling, two from gunfire, one from health problems in prison, and six others, it was learned. In Thandwe Township, Rakhine State, 16 local residents were killed by military airstrikes on August 10, and in Gwa Township, eight local residents were killed by airstrikes on August 13. AAPP announced that the military has continuously carried out airstrikes on civilians, as well as drone and artillery attacks, arson of village houses, abductions and torture, and military offensives during the past month of August. According to data collected up to September 2, over five years since the military junta's coup, AAPP has announced that a total of 8,333 civilians and democracy activists have been killed by the military and its affiliates.
