Jakarta Governor Assures Rp 3.5 Trillion Bond Issuance Will Not Burden City Finances

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has asserted that the planned issuance of local bonds worth IDR 3.5 trillion will not burden the city's finances. Speaking at the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government building on Tuesday (July 28, 2026), Anung stated that Jakarta possesses adequate fiscal capacity to meet its obligations to investors for both principal and interest repayment. "Actually, the IDR 3.5 trillion bond is not an obstacle for Jakarta," he said. Anung expressed optimism that the bonds would be fully repaid within a seven-year tenor, ensuring that the issuance would not become a problem for the next Jakarta governor. "Jakarta will certainly be able to resolve it well, whoever becomes the governor of Jakarta. That's why the tenor is seven years," he explained. He further clarified that the issuance of regional bonds is a form of "creative financing" undertaken by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to support development. The plan has received support from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs. However, Anung emphasized that the provincial government would still heed input from the Ministry of Home Affairs, led by Tito Karnavian. "We have now received support or approval from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs. Whatever it is, as governor, I will certainly listen to the input and suggestions from the Ministry of Home Affairs," he stated. Consequently, the governor assured that further discussions would be held with the Minister of Home Affairs before proceeding with the bond issuance process. "So that, in due time, I will definitely discuss with the Minister of Home Affairs," he concluded.
