Kampong Speu Province Concludes Student Sports Championship, Aiming to Discover Talent and Foster Well-being
Kampong Speu Province in Cambodia has concluded its 2025-2026 academic year student sports championship. The three-day event aimed to promote youth sports, discover talented athletes for national competitions, and foster healthy development, including drug abuse prevention.
The closing ceremony for the 2025-2026 academic year provincial student sports championship was held on July 3 in Kampong Speu Province, Cambodia. Mr. Hon Phakdy, Deputy Governor of Kampong Speu Province, presided over the event as the high representative of the Provincial Governor. The ceremony took place at the courtyard of the Provincial Department of Education, Youth, and Sports, with attendance from the head of the department, deputy heads, representatives of surrounding units, armed forces, teachers, students, and numerous athletes. According to a report by Mr. Thon Tharin, the provincial student sports championship competition had been smoothly and orderly organized over three days, from July 1 to July 3, 2026. The competition was held with the objective of promoting sports among youth and students, and to select outstanding athletes to represent Kampong Speu Province in national-level competitions. During the event, the Deputy Governor expressed his admiration and high evaluation for the organizing committee, the Provincial Department of Education, Youth, and Sports, as well as all teachers and athletes who worked together to make the event a resounding success. He also congratulated the winning athletes and students, while encouraging those who did not achieve success to continue training hard for future opportunities. The Deputy Governor emphasized the importance of sports, not only for bringing health and friendship but also for helping youth stay away from drugs and other societal vices. Concurrently, the Deputy Governor advised the Provincial Department of Education, Youth, and Sports to continue implementing in-depth reforms in the field of physical education and sports, based on the context of national and regional sports development. He urged that every youth should learn at least one sport for life, promote the establishment of sports clubs, strengthen regular training, foster the healthy physical and mental development of children, maintain strong physical condition, encourage participation in sports for personal health, and contribute to national development. He also stressed the importance of ensuring two hours of physical education and sports instruction per week.
