Mizzima In Myanmar, nearly 300 incidents of gender and sexual orientation-based violence have occurred in the past year and a half, with the military junta committing nearly 80 percent of them, according to Sisters to Sisters (S2S). Mizzima conducted an exclusive interview with Kyin Nyein, the campaign and mobilization officer for S2S, regarding these severe ground realities, the military junta's systematic violence, and the lack of accountability among some revolutionary forces. In this interview, Kyin Nyein pointed out the challenges on the ground and also spoke about the ideological strengths of the revolution as follows: "During this Spring Revolution period, regarding women's rights, LGBT rights, and ethnic minorities, especially among the revolutionary youth, there is a very positive acceptance rate of these views. And those who believe in this and engage in the fight are truly seen. So, this is a strength and the essence of the revolution," said Kyin Nyein. In this exclusive video interview, you can watch the full exclusive interview presented by Mizzima reporter Maung Khet Nue, covering topics such as violence that has been concealed due to news blackout, analysis of whether the military junta is intentionally and systematically using sexual violence to instill fear in the public, how to eradicate the culture of impunity for perpetrators, and how to protect vulnerable people from violence during a period of lawlessness.
