Indonesia-EAEU FTA Opens Door to US$3 Trillion Market for Local Products

Indonesia has initiated Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). If ratified, this agreement would grant Indonesian products access to a vast market valued at approximately US$3 trillion. This represents a significant step towards diversifying Indonesia's economy and increasing its exports. The EAEU comprises Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan, with a combined population of around 180 million people. The initiation of FTA talks is seen as part of Indonesia's strategy to enhance its competitiveness in the global economy and reduce its reliance on specific markets. Potential export growth is anticipated in sectors such as agricultural products, textiles, and manufactured goods. Key negotiation points are expected to include tariff reductions or eliminations, removal of non-tariff barriers, and simplification of trade procedures. The Indonesian government aims to foster domestic industrial growth and create employment opportunities through this FTA. Strengthening economic ties with EAEU member states is also expected to contribute to regional economic stability and development.
