Cambodia to Strengthen National Cancer Control Plan as PM Orders Healthcare Service Enhancement

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has instructed the Ministry of Health to continue pushing for the implementation of the "National Strategy to Fight Cancer for 2025-2030." This directive was issued during the official inauguration ceremony of the Hun Mae Hospital on September 16th. The Prime Minister emphasized the need to prevent cancer, ensure timely detection, accurate diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and meticulous patient care with quality, efficiency, sustainability, and equity. The Ministry of Health is also urged to continue improving the quality of healthcare services, particularly at the grassroots level. This includes strengthening the governance of health centers and referral hospitals to provide high-quality services with professionalism and accountability. The Prime Minister also called for enhancing the capacity of provincial hospitals to be comparable to those in Phnom Penh in terms of health examination, disease treatment, and healthcare service provision with effectiveness and sustainability. Furthermore, the Ministry of Health is directed to continue promoting the precise implementation of the cancer data management system to support policy formulation and execution. This involves developing technical guidelines in line with international best practices and reinforcing the capacity of healthcare personnel at all levels, both public and private, in managing operations, providing services, and in the prevention, diagnosis, care, and treatment of cancer with quality and safety. The Prime Minister also stressed the continuation of human resource development in the health sector to ensure adequate capacity for providing quality and professional cancer care and treatment services. This includes the study and organization of specialized training programs at all levels, covering both medical and paramedical expertise. Finally, the leadership and staff of the Hun Mae Hospital were encouraged to continue their diligent work to further enhance the quality and competitiveness of cancer treatment services, demonstrating goodwill, capability, and work efficiency.
