Cambodian Ruling Party Kicks Off Early Preparations for 2027 Commune Council Elections
The Cambodian People's Party (CPP) has begun early strategic planning and party strengthening for the 6th mandate commune council elections scheduled for June 2027. A meeting in Tang Kor district outlined the establishment of an election campaign command, candidate selection, and youth recruitment.
The Cambodian People's Party (CPP) held a meeting on July 18 to develop an action plan for the upcoming 6th mandate commune council elections scheduled for June 6, 2027, and to strengthen party organizations in Tang Kor district. The meeting was led by Mr. Thong Khon, a member of the CPP Central Committee and First Vice-Chairman of the Party's Working Group for Kampong Thom Province, and attended by approximately 170 participants, including the Second Vice-Chairman, members of the working group for Tang Kor district, heads and vice-heads of commune working groups, and heads and vice-heads of the district and commune party committees. During the meeting, Mr. Hak Monghuot, Governor of Tang Kor district and Chairman of the District Party Committee, presented the action plan for the 2027 commune council elections, the establishment of the election campaign command, and the July district party activity report. He affirmed the party's strategic commitment to expand its winning margin in the elections, adhering to all laws and regulations, with the goal of increasing current seats and particularly securing the position of chairman in all eight communes within Tang Kor district. Mr. Thong Khon instructed the commune working groups and commune party committees to prepare their action plans for the election and to form the commune-level election campaign command. He also emphasized the organization of village-level election mobilization teams and the creation of a calendar and budget for the commune council election campaign, aiming for success in Tang Kor district. Furthermore, Mr. Thong Khon directed the working groups, district party committee, and commune party committees to strictly implement the four-phase plan towards the 6th mandate commune council elections in 2027, starting preparations from now. This includes the careful review and selection of commune council candidates according to party guidelines to ensure all communes maintain and strengthen their winning advantage in the election. He also stressed the importance of recruiting youth members who have reached voting age to ensure each party member's vote supports the party, and to prevent opposition parties from gaining traction. He also recommended that the party working groups continue to expand party membership, encourage youth who have reached voting age to register as new voters, and urge party members to check the voter list. Strengthening and expanding the network of youth party activists at all levels, especially in villages and communes, and training them in mass mobilization activities to become successors were also highlighted. Finally, Mr. Thong Khon advised the commune working groups and commune party committees to maintain close ties with the grassroots, visit residents and party members at their homes to understand their well-being, concerns, and challenges, and work together to resolve them in a timely manner, thereby enhancing public trust in the government and the Cambodian People's Party.
