Vietnam Shines in Low-Cost Airline Hub Rankings; Tan Son Nhat Debuts

Southeast Asia has cemented its position as a global low-cost carrier (LCC) hub, with seven of its airports featuring in the world's top 20, according to a recent report by aviation data analytics firm OAG. The ranking assesses the breadth of LCC connections and destinations available from each airport. Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia topped the list, offering nearly 15,000 LCC connections to 154 destinations. Singapore's Changi Airport climbed five places to fifth, providing approximately 11,316 LCC connections across 167 destinations. Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport in the Philippines ranked sixth, and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, Indonesia, secured the seventh spot. Notably, Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, made its debut on the list at 19th place, offering around 3,730 LCC connections to 100 destinations. This debut highlights the growing importance of LCCs within Vietnam and the broader region. The report indicates that LCCs account for 51% of all seats in Southeast Asia, significantly higher than the global average of 34%. This translates to increased travel opportunities for passengers in the region, offering more routes and itinerary options at budget-friendly prices. A robust LCC hub is a crucial factor for travelers planning trips within their budget.
