Phan Anh Son Re-elected VUFO President, Eyes Modernized Diplomacy

Phan Anh Son has been re-elected as the President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO). Son emphasized the need for people-to-people diplomacy to move beyond old mindsets and reach regional and international levels. He aims to modernize the approach to international exchanges, fostering deeper connections. A delegation of VUFO, led by President Phan Anh Son, met with Lao leaders on December 24 as part of their working visit to Laos from December 23-24, reinforcing bilateral ties. Earlier, on December 16, a delegation of volunteers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) and staff from LDS Charities held a working session with VUFO in Hanoi. VUFO is also actively promoting stronger links among overseas Vietnamese (OV). Politburo Resolution No. 23 signals a shift in the Party's approach, moving from "pooling, gathering and caring for" OV to "accompanying them and creating mechanisms." This resolution aims to facilitate deeper OV engagement in national development by fostering sustainable networks that connect experts, intellectuals, entrepreneurs, and young people, thereby ensuring that the Vietnamese community abroad remains closely connected to the homeland. As Vietnam pursues ambitious development goals, including double-digit growth and strategic milestones by 2030 and 2045, VUFO's role in enhancing international understanding and fostering global connections is becoming increasingly significant.
