Thai Digital Content Industry to Reach 53.4 Billion Baht, IP Creation Key Challenge
Thailand's digital content industry is projected to reach 53.4 billion baht in 2025, with an estimated 6% growth. Character content shows strong performance, surging 31%, and PC games are also expanding. However, the urgent challenge lies in creating original Thai intellectual property (IP) and ensuring its value benefits domestic businesses.
The Digital Economy and Society Development Agency (depa) of Thailand has projected that the domestic digital content industry will reach a market value of 53.4 billion baht in 2025, an estimated 6% growth compared to the previous year. Notably, the character content sector is showing a remarkable growth rate of 31%, serving as a key driver for the overall industry. The PC game market is also on an expansionary trend, reflecting the increasing interest in digital entertainment. However, depa points out that for the sustainable development of Thailand's digital content industry, the creation of original intellectual property (IP) and the repatriation of its value to domestic businesses and creators is an urgent challenge. Currently, there is a tendency to rely on foreign IP, and it is likely that a significant portion of revenue flows out of the country. To overcome this challenge, policy support for domestic IP development and the establishment of an environment where creators can focus on their creative activities are required. Furthermore, technological support and human resource development to foster content competitive in the international market will also be crucial. The Thai government positions the digital content industry as one of the pillars of its national growth strategy, and concrete measures to promote IP creation are expected to be announced in the future.
