President says fuel conservation must be followed as national policy

As Myanmar imports US$5 billion worth of fuel annually, fuel conservation must be followed and implemented as a national policy, stated Head of State Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. This was stated in the State Address on the government's 100-day plan, delivered on the 12th day of the 2nd regular meeting of the 3rd Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, held on July 31. To reduce fuel consumption, measures such as restricting vehicle usage by days of the week and implementing work-from-home on Wednesdays have been carried out, resulting in a saving of 1.2 million gallons of fuel per day, which translates to US$7 million per day and US$210 million per month. To date, a total of over US$1 billion has been saved, stated Head of State Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. Therefore, the government is also accelerating the railway sector to reduce dependence on fuel. Furthermore, as part of the new government's 100-day plan, the Yangon-Mandalay, Yangon-Mawlamyine, and Yangon-Pyay railway lines are being upgraded, and a total of 76 passenger trains are being operated daily to facilitate public transportation, stated Head of State Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
