KTV, Bar, Club, Entertainment venues and Hotel, Motel, Guesthouses to be strictly inspected and arrested for drug use and sale

It is necessary to strictly inspect and arrest for drug use and sale at KTVs, bars, clubs, entertainment venues, hotels, motels, and guesthouses, said Union Minister for Home Affairs Lieutenant General Nyo Nyo Win. The Union Minister said this at the meeting (1/2026) of the Central Committee for the Prevention and Control of Drug Abuse and Narcotic Drugs, held at the Arindama Hall of the Myanmar Police Force Headquarters on September 16. Lieutenant General Nyo Nyo Win, Union Minister for Home Affairs and Chairman of the Central Committee for the Prevention and Control of Drug Abuse, stated that based on the success of the special operation "Operation 42" for drug prevention and suppression in Myanmar, operations should continue. He also said it is necessary to prevent the entry of not only drugs but also chemical substances, related materials, and chemical experts. He added that it is necessary to block and arrest at sea routes in cooperation with the Tatmadaw (Navy), the Coast Guard, and the Port Authority. Furthermore, he said it is necessary to strictly inspect and investigate and arrest for drug use and sale at KTVs, bars, clubs, entertainment programs, hotels, motels, and guesthouses in the Nay Pyi Taw Council Territory, regions and states. According to him, from 2025 to August 2026, 58 drug fugitives who were on the run for drug offenses have been arrested in Myanmar and are being handed over to their respective countries. In connection with drugs, over 4.285 billion kyats were confiscated as public revenue from 685 cases in 2025, and over 3.585 billion kyats were confiscated as public revenue from 356 cases up to August 2026, he said. Lieutenant General Phone Myat, Union Minister for Border Affairs and Vice-Chairman, Lieutenant General Soe Hlaing, Chief of Myanmar Police Force and Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Commander of the Drug Abuse Control Police Force, members of the Central Committee for the Prevention and Control of Drug Abuse, Chairmen and Secretaries of Working Groups, officials from the Myanmar Police Force, and representatives from related ministries attended the meeting in person. It was also learned that the Chairmen, Vice-Chairmen, Secretaries, and Deputy Secretaries of the Regional and State Drug Abuse Control Committees participated via video conferencing system.
