Illegal contact lenses, vitamins and cosmetics imported from China seized in Samut Prakan

Authorities inspected a warehouse in Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province, Thailand, on September 18, and seized a total of 132,720 items of illegal contact lenses, vitamin products, and cosmetics, it has been reported. The seized items are valued at approximately 4.74 million baht and include 117,839 unregistered contact lenses, 592 vitamin products not registered as medicines, and 14,289 cosmetic products that either lacked registration numbers or Thai-language labels. These items were imported from China and sold online within Thailand. The Chinese manager overseeing the warehouse confessed to authorities that the operation had been running for about three years and that they sold approximately 3,000 items per day to Thai customers. The Consumer Protection Police Division and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) jointly conducted the investigation, and officials have filed charges against the warehouse supervisor for selling unregistered medicines and medical devices without permission, and for selling unregistered medicines and cosmetics. The Thai FDA also warned that contact lenses obtained from unreliable sources can cause eye infections and damage.
