Cambodia Establishes National Committee to Implement SME Development Strategy
The Cambodian government has established a national committee to oversee the implementation of its national strategy for the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), aiming to diversify the economy and foster growth.
The Cambodian government has decided to establish a "National Committee for Guiding the Implementation of the National Strategy for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development" to oversee the execution of its national strategy aimed at fostering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This decision underscores the renewed recognition of the vital role MSMEs play in the nation's economic development. This committee will be responsible for policy formulation, implementation, and coordination to support the sustainable growth and enhanced competitiveness of MSMEs. Specifically, it aims to improve the business environment for MSMEs through measures such as enhancing access to finance, promoting technological innovation, expanding market access, and developing human capital. MSMEs constitute a significant portion of job creation in the Cambodian economy and play an indispensable role in revitalizing the domestic economy. However, they continue to face challenges such as difficulties in accessing capital, lack of technical expertise, and underdeveloped legal frameworks. The establishment of this committee is intended to address these issues and build a foundation that allows MSMEs to contribute more effectively to economic growth. While the Cambodian government has previously implemented MSME support measures, strengthening the system for comprehensive implementation and management as a national strategy is expected to lead to more effective assistance. This will be a crucial step for Cambodia to enhance its international competitiveness and achieve sustainable economic development.
