Thai Police Seize Over 52,000 Counterfeit Cosmetic Items in Warehouse Raids

BANGKOK – Police officers successfully raided two major storage warehouses located in the busy Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan province, seizing over 52,000 counterfeit cosmetic products during a massive early morning bust on Tuesday, September 17. The confiscated fake goods hold an estimated street value of nearly six million Thai baht. These illegal beauty products were being sold at suspiciously low prices across various online platforms. Health officials have urgently warned that these cheap cosmetic items often contain extremely dangerous chemical ingredients, which could cause severe allergic reactions or long-term skin health damage upon use. Dedicated officers from the Consumer Protection Police Division, armed with a valid search warrant from the Samut Prakan court, lawfully entered the warehouse facilities. They discovered a massive stockpile of fake Thai and international makeup brand products. Police believe the organized criminal smugglers used these secret warehouses to store imported counterfeit beauty goods, frequently changing locations to avoid detection. At the first warehouse, police apprehended a 27-year-old local man named Thanatchai, who guided officers around the storage area. Investigators found 11,511 fake cosmetic items worth roughly two million baht hidden there. The second storage location was managed by a 34-year-old Thai woman named Jaruwan. This facility held an even larger quantity of illegal cosmetic goods, with police confiscating 40,984 counterfeit beauty products worth about four million baht. Investigations revealed that these organized criminals utilized a sophisticated digital system to secretly sell the fake cosmetics. Foreign crime bosses reportedly managed all online shops and processed incoming customer orders daily, sending specific shipping instructions to local Thai warehouse managers. This setup allowed the foreign business owners to remain out of sight while local workers handled packing and shipping. The arrested suspects now face serious criminal charges for illegally selling fake consumer cosmetics. Violations of this specific Thai consumer protection law carry a maximum penalty of three months in prison and/or hefty fines of up to 30,000 Thai baht. High-ranking police commanders stressed the hidden physical dangers of these fake beauty items, explaining that they often contain harmful, untested toxic chemical ingredients that directly touch the skin. Ordinary consumers are urged to be extremely careful when buying suspiciously cheap items online, and to only purchase cosmetics from official retail stores or trusted verified sellers. Checking product packaging and official government registration numbers before use is also recommended.
