Junta airstrike kills woman, injures two in birthplace of Myanmar’s top Catholic cleric

The regime has attacked Mone Hla, in Sagaing’s Khin-U Township, repeatedly since seizing power in a 2021 coup. An airstrike by the junta on Mone Hla village on Tuesday afternoon, around 3 pm, killed one woman and injured two others. The village is the birthplace of Cardinal Charles Bo, the highest-ranking Catholic cleric in Myanmar. According to local residents, the airstrike landed near a Buddhist monastery in the center of the village. The monastery sustained minor damage, but surrounding houses were heavily damaged. The junta has intensified its airstrikes on areas that have become strongholds for resistance forces since the coup. These attacks have led to an increase in civilian casualties and have drawn condemnation from the international community.
