Cambodia and Vietnam to Hold 3rd Border Province Legal Conference to Strengthen Cooperation
Cambodia and Vietnam are set to hold the 3rd Legal Conference for Border Provinces in late 2026, hosted by Vietnam. This initiative aims to bolster legal and judicial cooperation between the two nations and address shared challenges in border regions.
The Cambodian Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Ministry of Justice, is preparing to organize the 3rd Legal Conference for border provinces of the two countries in late 2026. This conference is part of efforts to strengthen legal and judicial cooperation between the two nations. Preparations for this joint legal conference were discussed during a meeting on the afternoon of July 14, 2026, between Mr. Keth Rith, Minister of Justice of Cambodia, and Mr. Nguyen Minh Vu, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia. The discussions covered preparations for the 3rd Cambodia-Vietnam Border Province Legal Conference, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on legal and judicial cooperation for 2026, and exchange visits for study and experience sharing. Both sides also discussed providing various forms of support to enhance legal cooperation between the two countries. According to Ms. Dy Molany, spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice, the 3rd Legal Conference for Cambodia-Vietnam Border Provinces is scheduled to be held at the end of 2026, with Vietnam serving as the host. Ms. Molany informed Kampuchea Thmey that the conference aims to strengthen legal and judicial cooperation between the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Ministry of Justice of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, as well as with courts in the border provinces. This will be achieved through discussions to find solutions to challenges related to the implementation of the aforementioned cooperation, and to define a work plan with clear objectives and specific activities. It is noteworthy that the 3rd Legal Conference between the border provinces of Cambodia and Vietnam follows the 2nd Legal Conference, which was held in Siem Reap, Cambodia, in 2019. The first conference took place in Tay Ninh Province, Vietnam, in 2017.
