Cambodia Conducts Drug Abuse Prevention Campaign for Tourism Operators

The National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD) in Cambodia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and the Poipet Provincial Department of Tourism, has conducted an awareness campaign on the dangers of drug abuse targeting tourism service operators in Poipet City. The campaign took place from August 6-7, 2026, reaching 137 individuals across 19 locations. Miliya Sovathity, Deputy Director of the Poipet Provincial Department of Tourism, welcomed participants and highlighted the province's tourism situation, along with efforts to enhance drug control effectiveness to ensure safety and attract tourists. He also stated the department's commitment to continuing the implementation of all "green season" tourism policies. Sam Seng, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Tourism and representative of the Ministry of Tourism's drug control working group, presented the government's 11th National Campaign Plan to Combat Illegal Drugs, dated February 13, 2026. This plan underscores the importance of preventing drug abuse within the tourism sector. Lieutenant General Lim Tonghuot, Director of Public Awareness, Education, and Relations at the NACD, conveyed the gratitude and commendation from Deputy Prime Minister and NACD President, Dr. Net Savoeun, to all stakeholders in the tourism sector for their active participation in drug control efforts. Lt. Gen. Lim Tonghuot further explained that the objective of this campaign is to strengthen the participation of the private sector in preventing and curbing the spread of drug problems by providing brochures, legal books on drug control, stickers guiding individuals to community-based treatment services at health centers, and promoting the use of the 'NoDrug' application. Lt. Gen. Lim Tonghuot also emphasized that the cooperation of tourism service business owners in drug control efforts is a form of self-protection, safeguarding their staff and communities from drug-related issues.
