Vietnamese PM Attends Inauguration of New Boarding Schools in Border Areas

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung attended the opening ceremony for the 2026-2027 academic year and the inauguration of newly built boarding schools in the inland border areas. Speaking at the Mường Khương Primary and Secondary Boarding School in Mường Khương commune, Lào Cai province, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of education and the need to provide opportunities for children, especially those in border regions. "Talent is the vitality of the nation," the Prime Minister stated, adding that a strong nation requires capable individuals, and achieving this necessitates high-quality education. This education should not only cultivate knowledge, thinking skills, creativity, and adaptability but also foster harmonious development in moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic aspects. He also referenced President Ho Chi Minh's words, "An uneducated nation is a weak nation," and "For ten years, plant trees; for one hundred years, cultivate people," highlighting the long-term investment in education. The 2026-2027 academic year was designated as the first year of implementing the resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, aiming for significant innovation in educational thinking, practices, and quality. The Prime Minister expressed his hope that the newly inaugurated boarding schools would serve as a "pillar of belief and future," ensuring that geographical distance or family circumstances do not hinder children's aspirations for learning. He also extended gratitude to the ministries, sectors, localities, armed forces, organizations, individuals, engineers, workers, and local communities who worked diligently to complete these schools in challenging conditions. Vietnam is entering a new phase of development with the aspiration of becoming a developed and prosperous nation. In this context, education must lead the way, serving as a fundamental and key driving force. The Prime Minister pointed out the need to shift from simply imparting knowledge to developing comprehensive qualities and capabilities, and from focusing on scores to assessing the actual progress of each student. He specifically mentioned Resolution 71 of the Politburo, which emphasizes that education and training must ensure "learning goes hand in hand with practice," "theory is linked to reality," and "the school is connected to society." The Prime Minister expressed his expectation that the 2026-2027 academic year will be a year of substantive innovation from within each school, classroom, teacher, student, and the entire education sector. He strongly urged for the renewal of educational management thinking and teaching methods, with a focus on the learner as the center.
