Demanding money at checkpoints will be prosecuted

If money is demanded at checkpoints on the Mandalay-Myitkyina Union highway, it can be reported and will be prosecuted according to the law, said Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Brigadier General Min Thu. In response to a question from U Tun Tun Aung, a Member of Parliament for the Mogaung constituency, during the 29th day of the second regular session of the third Pyidaungsu Hluttaw held on July 24, regarding whether there are plans to reduce or eliminate illegal money collection at legitimate security checkpoints on the Mandalay-Myitkyina road, Deputy Minister Brigadier General Min Thu replied as follows. Brigadier General Min Thu stated that at the five checkpoints on the Mandalay-Myitkyina Union highway, government departments including the Tatmadaw, the Myanmar Police Force, and the General Administration Department are conducting joint inspections, and if reports of money demands are received, they are being prosecuted according to existing laws. It was also learned from Brigadier General Min Thu's statement that to prevent money demands at these joint checkpoints, responsible officials at the regional, state, district, and township levels are systematically supervising them, and the operational status of the checkpoints is being monitored by installing CCTV cameras.
