Indonesian Police Chief Meets FBI Director, Discusses Strengthening Transnational Crime Cooperation

The Indonesian National Police Chief (Kapolri) held a meeting with the Director of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to discuss strengthening cooperation against transnational criminal activities. This meeting was realized due to the necessity of further deepening cooperation between the two countries amidst the increasing activities of international criminal organizations. Specifically, it is understood that discussions focused on promoting information sharing and enhancing joint investigative activities against various forms of cross-border crimes such as terrorism, cybercrime, human trafficking, and drug smuggling. Indonesia, due to its geographical characteristics of vast territory and numerous islands, has aspects that make it susceptible to becoming a base for international criminal organizations or smuggling routes. Furthermore, for the increasing cybercrimes in recent years, it is sometimes difficult for domestic law enforcement agencies to respond alone, making international cooperation indispensable. Through this meeting, it is believed that both countries have taken a step towards building concrete cooperation frameworks, including technical assistance in criminal investigations, mutual dispatch of investigators, and strengthening information exchange pipelines. This is noteworthy as it is expected to contribute not only to maintaining domestic security in Indonesia but also to regional stability.
