Cambodia Begins Preparations for 2026 Teacher's Day, Emphasizing Education Reform and 21st Century Skills

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of Cambodia has convened a meeting to prepare for the organization of Teacher's Day in 2026. The meeting was attended by ministry leaders, representatives from UNESCO, development partners, and relevant stakeholders. During the meeting, discussions focused on highlighting the 'value of modern pedagogy' in alignment with the current context of educational reforms. The aim is to enhance student learning outcomes and international academic assessments (PISA) through the cultivation of 21st-century skills. Specific initiatives include organizing forums for knowledge sharing from new-generation school teachers and educational institutions (PTEC and BTEC), in addition to the annual essay competitions, poetry recitals, and presentations of teacher achievements. Key aspects discussed and decided upon included the setting of a core theme that aligns with the current educational reform context, the development of an action plan, and the division of tasks among various sub-committees (content, protocol, security, and public relations). Coordination with development partners, teacher associations, and relevant institutions for financial and technical support was also a central point of discussion. The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport traditionally celebrates Teacher's Day on October 5th each year. The purpose is to express gratitude, honor, and pay tribute to teachers nationwide for their dedication in transferring knowledge.
