Vietnam Proposes Abolishing Architect Practice Certificate System

Vietnam's government has proposed the abolition of current regulations concerning architect practice examinations and the issuance of practice certificates, as part of amendments to the Law on Architecture. This move aims to modernize the architectural sector and advance legal frameworks. Specifically, the proposed amendments include the elimination of provisions related to the conduct of architect practice examinations, the procedures for recognizing social-occupational organizations eligible to issue practice certificates, and the establishment of a committee for reviewing and issuing practice certificates. This initiative reflects the government's intention to foster the development of Vietnam's architectural industry and establish a more contemporary legal system. While the examination and certification system has historically been in place to ensure a certain level of professionalism, the aim is to invigorate the industry as a whole through deregulation and procedural simplification. In recent years, Vietnam has experienced a surge in demand for architectural services, driven by rapid urbanization and economic growth. In this context, a flexible review of legal frameworks will be crucial for promoting new development projects and aligning with international standards.
