Marcos Reiterates Commitment to Anti-Political Dynasty Bill Passage

Malacañang confirmed that President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. remains committed to the passage of an anti-political dynasty law during his term. "It remains the President’s desire that the Anti-Political Dynasty Bill be passed during his term and under his administration," said Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro in a briefing. She added, "So let us just wait and see how the bicameral conference committee process will proceed and how long it will take, because as far as we know, it is the Senate that still has to complete its work on the matter." Castro's remarks came after Marcos did not mention the bill in his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday. Marcos had previously urged Congress to prioritize the passage of the Anti-Dynasty Bill in December 2025. In June, the House of Representatives passed on final reading a bill that would prohibit relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity or affinity from running for or occupying a post in the same constituency or jurisdiction. However, business and civic groups have called on the Senate to reject the bill and urged Marcos to veto the measure, arguing that it would institutionalize political dynasties rather than dismantle them. Political dynasties are a long-standing feature of Philippine politics, with many powerful families holding elected positions across generations. The passage of this bill could signal a significant shift in the country's political landscape, but its path forward remains uncertain.
