In Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province, on the afternoon of September 21, 2026, military police conducted a raid on a rented building suspected of being a cyber scam operation. Sources indicate that approximately 100 Thai nationals, suspected of involvement in cyber fraud activities, were discovered and arrested during this operation. Concurrently, Colonel Oeu Sophal, Deputy Police Commissioner of Banteay Meanchey Province, was also arrested and taken for questioning. Reports suggest he is the owner of the building targeted by the authorities and was apprehended for further investigation. This operation aligns with the authorities' intensified crackdown on cyber fraud and online criminal networks, with a particular focus on border areas. Authorities are currently continuing their investigation, gathering evidence, and questioning involved parties to determine individual roles and responsibilities before proceeding with legal actions. The military police stated that all suspects and related evidence will be transferred to the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Court for legal proceedings once the investigation and case preparation are completed.
