Vietnam Celebrates National Day: Strengthening International Ties Amidst Domestic Progress

As Vietnam commemorates its 81st anniversary of National Day on September 2, the nation is reflecting on its remarkable transformation and reaffirming its commitment to international cooperation and domestic development. Eighty-one years since the August Revolution and the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) on September 2, 1945, the country has made incredible progress. It has evolved from a poor, underdeveloped nation into a dynamic economy with an increasingly prominent presence on the global stage. This progress is underscored by significant achievements following the Doi moi (Renewal) policy, with projections for 2025 indicating a GDP of $514 billion, economic growth of 8.02%, total trade turnover of $930 billion, and registered foreign direct investment (FDI) exceeding $38.4 billion. Congratulatory messages have poured in from leaders of various nations, including France, Cuba, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Laos, acknowledging Vietnam's National Day. These messages reflect the strong bilateral relationships and Vietnam's active role in multilateral forums. Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan's engagements in Bishkek on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Plus Summit included bilateral meetings with senior officials and interactions with the Vietnamese community. These activities highlighted Vietnam's proactive and responsible stance as a member of the international community, upholding international law, the UN Charter, and promoting dialogue and cooperation for regional and global peace, stability, and sustainable development. General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam extended congratulatory messages, including to the King of Malaysia. This signifies the Party's leadership in guiding Vietnam through numerous challenges to achieve important accomplishments in national construction and development, acknowledging the contributions of generations of Party officials and members. The trajectory of Vietnam's independence and development is deeply rooted in the ideology of President Ho Chi Minh. The enduring pillars of national independence, international solidarity, and human progress, central to his thought, continue to guide the nation, echoing the spirit of the August Revolution. Vietnam places great importance on its special solidarity, friendship, and comprehensive cooperation with Cuba, expressing confidence in the Cuban Party, State, and people's future successes. The close friendship and cooperation with Laos, described as "comrades and brothers," are expected to yield further attainments in the Doi Moi process and advance towards socialism. The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Thailand is also poised for substantive growth, serving the interests of both peoples. Agreements reached with the UK are expected to translate the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership into practical cooperation across science and technology, agricultural trade, environmental protection, climate adaptation, and sustainable development, with tangible results anticipated at COP31 and beyond.
