Northern Thailand Landslides Threaten School, Threatening Over 300 Lives

The Doi Taw Phah mountain in Nan province, northern Thailand, is experiencing daily landslides, escalating the risk of mudslides. At Doi Tiew Ban School, situated on this mountainside, approximately 300 students and teachers live under constant fear of being struck by the debris. School officials report that the mountain slope is collapsing incrementally each day, with the scale of the disaster increasing. The possibility of the school facilities themselves being buried or engulfed by the mudslide cannot be ruled out. Ensuring the safety of the children is the top priority, and the school is urgently requesting immediate countermeasures. Landslides in mountainous areas, particularly during the rainy season, are a common occurrence in Thailand. However, the case of Doi Taw Phah is unusual in its frequency and persistence, posing a serious threat to the very foundation of the local community's livelihood.
