Cambodia's Ministry of Health and UNICEF to Strengthen Cooperation in 6 Priority Areas for Maternal and Child Health

The Ministry of Health and UNICEF Cambodia have agreed to continue and strengthen their cooperation in six priority areas to contribute to the improvement of maternal and child health and the strengthening of Cambodia's healthcare system. This agreement is part of the UNICEF Country Programme for Cambodia 2024-2028. During a meeting held at the Ministry of Health on September 23rd, Minister of Health Professor Chheang Ra and the new UNICEF Cambodia Representative, Dr. Maha Damaj, reaffirmed the long-standing partnership and the importance of their cooperation. Professor Ra expressed gratitude for UNICEF's continued support to the health sector, particularly its technical and financial assistance for the COVID-19 response, the supply of medical equipment, and support for the Child Nutrition Fund project for 2024-2028. Moving forward, both parties will focus their cooperation on the following six priority areas: 1. Nutrition (SUN): Accelerating the improvement of maternal and child nutrition. 2. Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health: Strengthening healthcare services in remote areas, especially in the northeastern provinces. 3. Digital Transformation: Enhancing the Health Data Information System (DHIS2) and the electronic vaccination system. 4. Immunization and Equity: Continuing to identify and provide vaccination services to zero-dose children. 5. Community Systems: Strengthening the role of Village Health Support Groups (VHSGs) in providing and promoting primary healthcare services at the local level. 6. Environmental Health and Climate Change: Integrating solar energy systems in the health sector and strengthening the safe management of medical waste. Both parties pledged to continue their cooperation through the MOH-UNICEF Rolling Plan to strengthen the healthcare system and contribute to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Cambodia.
