Techo International Airport Ranks 5th Globally for 'World's Best New Airports' in Inaugural Year

Techo International Airport in Cambodia has been recognized as the 5th best new airport in the world by the prestigious aviation assessment body Skytrax, securing the "World's Best New Airport Terminals 2026" award. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the airport, solidifying its position as Cambodia's premier international gateway. Operational since September 9, 2025, and officially inaugurated on October 20, 2025, under the high patronage of Prime Minister Hun Manet, Techo International Airport serves as Cambodia's most crucial and modern air transit hub. All air traffic operations for the capital city have been transferred to this facility, with the inaugural flight operated by the national carrier, Air Cambodia. Developed on approximately 2,600 hectares with an investment of $2.3 billion, this 4F category airport is equipped to handle the largest aircraft, including the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747. Its first phase has a passenger capacity of 13 to 15 million annually, with plans for future expansion to accommodate up to 50 million passengers. As of the first half of 2026, the airport had already welcomed around 2.4 million passengers, demonstrating robust growth. Its sophisticated architecture and high-quality services, which blend Khmer cultural identity with international standards, were particularly lauded by Skytrax World Airport Awards. Entering its second year of operation, the airport is set to further enhance its capabilities with the upcoming completion of a new 4-hectare cargo terminal, doubling cargo handling capacity, and a new VVIP terminal, both slated for launch in November 2026. Mr. Sin Chansereyvutha, Spokesperson for the Secretariat of State Civil Aviation, stated that the first year's achievements represent more than just the opening of a new airport; they signify the creation of a secure and modernized economic gateway.
