Need to inspect the strength of embankments along the Ayeyawady and Ngawan rivers

It is necessary to conduct on-site inspections of the strength of embankments along the Ayeyawady and Ngawan rivers, systematically establish water defense measures, and set up a system to inform the public in case of any abnormalities, said Vice President U Nyo So. He made these remarks at a meeting on embankment repair, rescue, and rehabilitation activities related to flooding in the Letanaung Township, held on August 5th in the meeting hall of the Ayeyawady Region Government Office in Pathein City. He stated that low embankments can be constructed along the rivers to prevent floods and to implement river water pumping projects. Vice President U Nyo So said that it is necessary to prepare sector-wise plans to ensure that bridges, electricity, telecommunications, schools, hospitals, and water supply systems that require repair due to flood damage can be reused as soon as possible. He also said that plans should be made for replanting rice in farmlands damaged by flooding, or for planting alternative crops if it is too late, and that relevant ministries and the regional government will cooperate in planning for seeds, agricultural inputs, necessary support, and technology. Vice President U Nyo So said that as it is the school opening season, efforts should be made to reopen schools as soon as possible after the water recedes, and that short-term and long-term measures for the robustness and strength of embankments and riverbanks should be prioritized. Furthermore, Vice President U Nyo So urged all relevant departments to cooperate in a united manner for the rehabilitation of flood-affected citizens.
