CRPH Delegation Attends IPU High-Level Political Forum at UN Headquarters, Reports Myanmar's Sustainable Development Goals Severely Affected by Military Coup

Ayeyarwaddy Times July 16 It is reported that a delegation led by U Aung Kyi Nyunt, Chairman of the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), attended the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, on July 14. At the forum, U Aung Kyi Nyunt, the leader of the Myanmar parliamentary delegation, reported and discussed that in the years following the military coup in Myanmar, the sector of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11, "Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable," has been severely affected and damaged. U Aung Kyi Nyunt pointed out that currently, due to the atrocities committed by the military junta, millions of people have been forced to flee their homes, and the homes, schools, health facilities, and public buildings of the people are being continuously destroyed. He further stated in the discussion that when democracy and the rule of law are lost, all the development achievements that have been painstakingly built over many years are lost and destroyed in a short period, which is what Myanmar is currently experiencing in reality. Daw Myat Thida Htun, Chairperson of the International Relations Committee and a member of the delegation, also stated that due to the military coup, the institutional infrastructure implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has suddenly collapsed, and the country's sustainable development process has regressed rapidly in many sectors. Therefore, CRPH Chairman U Aung Kyi Nyunt urged the international community to continue to support and assist the people of Myanmar in rebuilding inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities. Currently, the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), the National Unity Government (NUG), Ethnic Resistance Organizations (EROs), civil society organizations, and local grassroots organizations are working together to establish a peaceful and inclusive democratic future. U Aung Kyi Nyunt added that efforts are being made to strengthen collective action and cooperation, particularly through the Steering Committee for the Establishment of a Federal Democratic Union (SCEF). The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), composed of parliaments from countries worldwide, has recognized the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) as the legitimate parliamentary organization of Myanmar since the military coup in 2021. Therefore, it is understood that the parliamentarians democratically elected by the people in the 2020 general election are continuously attending the meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) representing the entire people of Myanmar and presenting reports on Myanmar's affairs.
