Cambodia Studies Korean Construction Site Safety and Health to Enhance Skills

A delegation from the Cambodian Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training conducted a study visit in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from September 14 to 18, 2026, to strengthen occupational safety and health in the construction sector. The delegation comprised labor and occupational safety and health inspectors from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, as well as construction inspectors from the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction. The program was organized by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) and the "Asia-Pacific Regional Case for Implementing the Global Accelerator by a Just Transition in the Construction Industries" project, under the ILO-Korea Partnership Programme. Its objective was to enhance the capacity of Cambodian inspectors in preventing and mitigating accidents at construction sites. According to Mr. Som Chanan, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, the delegation studied policies and laws on construction site safety, techniques for investigating labor accidents, promoting a safety culture in the use of equipment and machinery, and inspection techniques. Additionally, the delegation conducted on-site inspections at construction projects, visited the Korean Occupational Safety and Health Training Center, and held discussions with the Ministry of Labour of the Republic of Korea regarding future cooperation. Mr. Chanan expressed gratitude to the government and people of Korea for their support and technical assistance to Cambodia, particularly in developing the occupational safety and health sector and in drafting the Law on Occupational Safety and Health. He expressed strong confidence that this visit would contribute to strengthening Cambodia-Korea cooperation and ILO collaboration in promoting decent work, safety, and health for workers in Cambodia's construction sector.
