Garuda Indonesia to Gradually Resume Operations at Soekarno-Hatta Airport After Volcanic Ash Impact Assessment

State-owned airline Garuda Indonesia has announced the gradual resumption of flight operations to and from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK). The reopening is set to commence on Tuesday, September 8, at 00:01 Western Indonesian Time (WIB), following an assessment of volcanic ash impact and intensive coordination with relevant authorities. The airline conveyed this information through its official Instagram account, urging passengers to prepare their travel schedules. According to the announcement, each flight will be operated after undergoing safety assessments and aircraft airworthiness inspections concerning potential volcanic ash dispersion impacts, and based on coordination with relevant authorities. Garuda Indonesia management provided this operational update as of Monday, September 7, at 19:30 WIB. The airline specifically advised passengers holding tickets for flights departing from 00:01 WIB on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, to arrive at the airport three hours prior to their scheduled departure to ensure a smooth travel process. The company expressed understanding of the importance of travel certainty for its passengers and thanked them for their understanding and continued trust in flying with Garuda Indonesia. Previously, the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation had temporarily closed Soekarno-Hatta Airport's operations until 23:59 WIB due to the dispersion of volcanic ash.
