Cambodia to Build 3km Concrete Road to Boost Eco-Tourism in Kampong Speu

A new road construction project is underway in Oral District, Kampong Speu Province, Cambodia, aimed at promoting natural tourism. The project involves the construction of a 3-kilometer concrete road, 6 meters wide, extending from the foot to the summit of Phnom Khnar Chas. This initiative is part of the 'Regional Landscape and Natural Tourism Sustainability Project.' The new road is expected to significantly improve connectivity to the natural tourist attractions of Phnom Khnar Chas, making travel easier for residents, local communities, and visitors alike. The region is recognized for its high potential in natural beauty and tourism. On September 7, 2026, Minister of Rural Development Chhay Rithysen led a delegation of technical officials and experts to inspect the actual conditions of four rural roads in Oral District. During the visit, they also met and consulted with local community members. During the occasion, the Minister reviewed the plan for the concrete road from the foot to the summit of Phnom Khnar Chas. Additionally, he inspected three other roads: a red gravel road totaling 7.15 kilometers, connecting Tang Pum village to the mid-slope of Phnom Khnar Chas (near Damnak Damrei Community Market), which has reached approximately 42% completion and is slated for completion in March 2027. Another is a gravel-mixed road spanning 8.90 kilometers, linking Putra village to Chom Pock village in Tram Pech Commune, Oral District. The fourth is a 4-kilometer double-layer asphalt road, 4 meters wide, leading to the Ta Sal Reservoir from the entrance gate of Wat Oudom Kiri Chulsa, in Ou Ancha village, Ta Sal Commune, Oral District. These rural road infrastructure improvement projects are anticipated not only to facilitate travel and transportation but also to create economic opportunities for local communities by attracting tourists and enhancing the value chain of forest products within the landscape.
