Vietnam, Aichi Prefecture Urged to Boost Cooperation
Vietnam and Japan's Aichi Prefecture are urged to strengthen cooperation in education, defense, and people-to-people exchanges. Emphasis is placed on educational links between Vietnamese institutions and Japanese schools, as well as deepening cooperation between the defense ministries of both countries.
Vietnam and Japan's Aichi Prefecture are urged to further promote cooperation between the two regions. In particular, strengthening cooperation in the education sector and deepening cooperation in the defense sector are important focal points. In education, Japan's Aoyama Gakuin has authorized the Vietnam Japan Cooperation Center (VJCE) as its representative in Vietnam to coordinate educational cooperation activities, build partnerships, develop training programs, and promote educational exchange projects between the two countries. This aligns with Vietnam's strategy under its one-party system, aiming to improve the country's educational standards and develop international human resources. In defense, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang expressed his hope for continued support in the implementation of bilateral defense cooperation, expecting tangible outcomes. The defense ministries of both countries highly value the Border Defense Friendship Exchange as a meaningful cooperation mechanism, which is an important element in building relations between Vietnam and neighboring countries. Recently, the border defense friendship exchange between Vietnam and Laos has been recognized as a model for a peaceful and friendly border. Furthermore, the navies of Vietnam and the Philippines held joint exercises on Song Tu Tay island in the Spratly Islands (referred to as Truong Sa Islands in Vietnam), aiming to deepen mutual understanding and cooperation. In people-to-people exchanges, active movements are observed, such as festivals that contribute to strengthening partnerships between Da Nang City and Japanese localities. Vietnam has signed over 1,400 international commitments and agreements in the past decade, with more than 350 new pacts inked since early 2026 alone. Vietnam also plans to work closely with member states of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) to sign their free trade agreement (FTA) at an early date and effectively implement its commitments. General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and State President To Lam has met with ambassadors from Belgium, Norway, the Netherlands, and Brazil, striving to maintain and develop diplomatic relations. The establishment of Vietnam's first honorary consulate in Phuket, Thailand, aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries and expand support for Vietnamese citizens and communities in southern Thailand. Positive evaluations of Vietnam's socio-economic achievements, rich culture, and cuisine suggest an improvement in the country's international standing.
