Vietnam to Host International Folk Song and Dance Festival in Dien Bien in 2026

Vietnam is set to host the International Folk Song and Dance Festival in the northern province of Dien Bien in 2026. The festival, themed "Cultural Connection - Peace Diffusion - Leap to Integration," is scheduled to take place from August 28 to September 2, 2026, at 7/5 Square in Dien Bien province. The event will feature artistic exchanges, folk song and dance performances, traditional costume exhibitions, a cultural and culinary market, and experiential programs for residents and tourists. Concurrently, a logo design competition will be held to select the official emblem for the festival. Mr. Tran Hai Ha, Director of the Dien Bien Provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, stated that the festival aims to become a space for international cultural exchange, honoring the unique values of ethnic groups, and strengthening friendship between Vietnam and the world. The theme's components – "Cultural Connection" signifies the meeting and respect of cultural values; "Peace Diffusion" asserts culture's role in bringing people closer; and "Leap to Integration" reflects the aspiration to preserve and develop traditional values with creative thinking suitable for modern life. The selection of Dien Bien province, a historically significant site, as the festival's starting point carries special meaning, symbolizing peace, friendship, and the aspiration for development. Organizers anticipate that the songs, dances, and cultural colors from various art troupes will foster encounters among diverse ethnic groups, thereby introducing Dien Bien to a wide range of domestic and international visitors. To achieve its objectives, the organizing committee has outlined four key requirements: adherence to legal regulations, emphasis on cultural identity, assurance of safety and professionalism, and the creation of long-term positive impacts post-event. Ms. Nguyen Phuong Loan, General Director of HVL Media Joint Stock Company, expressed that commencing the festival's journey in Dien Bien, the site of a "glorious victory that shook the globe," aims to convey the message of Vietnam as a nation that always cherishes peace. The convergence of ethnic songs and dances in Dien Bien will serve as an affirmation of the Vietnamese people's love for peace. The festival will also include a market showcasing OCOP products, agricultural goods, traditional handicrafts, and Tây Bắc regional cuisine, alongside entertainment activities for tourists. A notable highlight will be a hot air balloon performance on September 2, Vietnam's National Day, with a balloon shaped like the Vietnamese flag, expected to become a special imprint of the festival, symbolizing patriotism, national pride, and the aspiration for peace. Mr. Lo Van Cuong, Standing Vice Chairman of the Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee, affirmed that the International Folk Song and Dance Festival will serve as an opportunity to introduce the image of Vietnam and its people, as well as Dien Bien, to boost tourism and expand international cooperation.
